How to Update to iOS 27 and Experience All Its New Features
Complete step-by-step verification, storage preparation, encrypted local backup, Release Candidate download, and official September 14 OTA installation procedure.
Step 1: Check If Your Apple Device Qualifies for iOS 27
iOS 27 supports iPhone 13 series and newer, including iPhone 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 series, iPhone Duo, and iPhone SE (3rd Gen or newer). iPhone 11 and earlier models are not supported. For Apple Intelligence 2.0, verify that your device possesses at least 8GB of unified RAM (iPhone 15 Pro, 16, 17, or 18 series).
# Check your model in: Settings -> General -> About -> Model Name
Step 2: Create an Encrypted Backup to Preserve Health & Passwords
Never install a major OS upgrade without a full image backup. Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC via USB-C or Lightning cable. Open Finder (macOS) or Apple Devices (Windows), enable "Encrypt local backup", and click "Back Up Now".
# Alternatively on iPhone: Settings -> [Your Name] -> iCloud -> iCloud Backup -> Back Up Now
Step 3: Free Up At Least 14GB Internal Storage Space
The OTA update payload measures between 6.2GB and 7.8GB, but requires an additional 6GB to 8GB of transient scratch disk space for unpack, binary patch application, and image verification.
# Check free space in: Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage
Step 4: Install Over-The-Air on September 14 or Install the Release Candidate Now
On September 14 at 10:00 AM PT (10:30 PM IST), go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap "Upgrade to iOS 27". If updating before September 14, enroll in beta.apple.com, enable Beta Updates in Settings, and install Build 24A348 immediately.
